Queensland Whalers

I’ve sailed the North Atlantic where the ice flows in the breeze
And roamed the Dutch West Indies in the calm blue sunny seas
When I think of ships and sailors my thoughts return again
To a season spent in Moreton Bay with Queensland Whaling men

Oh you Queensland whalers who’ve cut the sugar cane
And drove the herds of cattle across the dry and dusty plain
You’ve dug the ore at Isa, laid countless miles of rail
And now you’ve come to Moreton Bay to catch a   humpback whale

The man up in the crows nest as whaling legend goes
Looks out across the water and bellows Thar she blows
But here in sunny Queensland you’ll often hear them shout
There goes a bloody beauty mate so get yer finger out

Oh you Queensland whalers who’ve cut the sugar cane
And drove the herds of cattle over the dry and dusty plain
You’ve dug the ore at Isa, laid countless miles of rail
And now you’ve come to Moreton Bay to catch a   humpback whale

From Moreton to Caloundra those whaling sharks abound
They’ll wait like dingos in the scrub fer a wounded beast to down
But there taste fer blood and savagery it never could compare
To the bite that inland revenue takes from our bonus share

Oh you Queensland whalers who’ve cut the sugar cane
And drove the herds of cattle across the dry and dusty plain
You’ve dug the ore at Isa, laid countless miles of rail
And now you’ve come to Moreton Bay to catch a   humpback whale

When fuels tanks were running low we’d sail to Brisbane town
And at the nearest boozer our sorrows we would drown
With beer and firey whiskey and plonk of vintage rare
We’d steer a steady zig zag course without a flaming care
